Job summary

YMCA of Delaware is seeking a School Age Site Assistant to support day-to-day operations, supervise children, and assist when the School Age Coordinator is absent and properly trained.

The role emphasizes safety, developmentally appropriate activities, strong communication with families and staff, and maintaining a clean, welcoming facility. Training and growth opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Option 1–4 cover training/education in school-age care or related fields.
• Must pass criminal history and abuse background checks as required by Delaware law.
• Must be physically and mentally capable of supervising a large group of children.
• Strong active listening and patient, compassionate demeanor required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children and activities while following safe, developmentally appropriate practices.
• Provide daily care including feeding and supporting social/emotional needs.
• Engage children in classroom activities and transitions.
• Implement positive behavior management techniques.
• Plan and participate in age-appropriate activities and document progress.
• Communicate with staff and parents to foster collaboration and participation.
• Ensure the facility and equipment are clean, safe, and maintained.
• Complete program documentation such as attendance and meals.
• Attend family nights, program activities, staff meetings and trainings.
