Job summary

YMCA of Delaware is seeking a School Age Assistant to supervise children and staff in a center, ensuring safe daily operations and developmentally appropriate care. The role focuses on supporting social and emotional needs, engaging children in activities, and maintaining a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent recognized by the Delaware Department of Education.
• Criminal history, child abuse and adult abuse background checks as required by the State of Delaware.
• Complete a physical and tuberculosis screening within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children, group, and activities with safe, developmentally appropriate practices.
• Provide daily care for children including feeding and supporting social/emotional needs.
• Engage children in classroom activities, meals, transitions and gross motor play.
• Implement positive behavior management techniques.
• Plan and participate in age-appropriate classroom activities to support learning.
• Observe and document children's progress and development.
