Job summary

The YMCA of Delaware is seeking a School Age Aide to supervise children and support their development in a safe, caring setting. You will guide activities during classroom times, meals, and transitions, ensuring inclusive participation and healthy routines.

Ideal candidates are 16+ with required background checks, able to communicate well and stay patient while engaging diverse groups of children and families.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old (15 if enrolled in certain education programs).
• Must be four years older than any child in direct care.
• Complete physical & TB screening within 30 days of hire.
• Criminal history and child/adult abuse background checks required.
• Proficient active listening skills to understand diverse needs.
• Patience and compassion for young children.
• Ability to provide activities that promote healthy development.
• Ability to maintain classroom discipline and provide supportive environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for a diverse community.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children, groups, and activities with safe, developmentally appropriate practices.
• Provide daily care including feeding and supporting social-emotional needs.
• Encourage and engage children in classroom activities during instructional and meal times.
• Implement positive behavior management techniques.
• Assist in planning and participating in daily age-appropriate activities and learning.
• Observe children and document progress and development.
