Job summary

First Merchants Bank seeks an SBL Business Development Officer to originate and manage a profitable SBA loan portfolio. You will market to referral sources, assemble loan packages, and coordinate with borrowers, underwriters, and closers to ensure timely, compliant funding.

You will build strong client relationships, analyze credit readiness, and maintain a robust pipeline while adhering to SBA SOP and policy requirements. This role offers base pay with bonuses and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 5+ years successfully originating SBA loans.
• Strong sales acumen and ability to market and network.
• Understanding of SBA SOP and loan eligibility requirements.
• Ability to prepare income-statement spreads and brief credit memos.

Responsibilities

• Identify and cultivate relationships with external referral sources to maintain a pipeline of SBA loan transactions.
• Market the SBL proposition and highlight competitive advantages in the marketplace.
• Manage pipeline, follow up on leads, and provide feedback to borrowers; update pipeline tracker weekly.
• Source loans that match credit parameters and enhance the loan portfolio.
• Assemble loan packages and prepare credit memos in line with policy before underwriting submission.
• Collect required documents from borrowers and ensure secure handling of sensitive information.
• Coordinate with borrowers and underwriters during kick-off calls and documentation gathering.
• Maintain positive relationships with clients, referral sources, team members, and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies.
