Job summary

First Merchants Bank seeks an SBL Business Development Officer to originate and manage a profitable SBA loan portfolio. You will market to referral sources, build relationships, and manage the end-to-end loan process from origination to underwriting, ensuring documentation and compliance.

You will collaborate with borrowers, underwriters, and closers, gathering information and maintaining a compliant portfolio while delivering exceptional service to clients and partners in North Carolina.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in business/finance.
• 5+ years originating SBA loans.
• Excellent sales and networking ability.
• Knowledge of SBA SOP and loan eligibility.
• Ability to spread loans and underwriting knowledge.
• Strong communication and client service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Identify and cultivate relationships with external referral sources to maintain a pipeline of SBA loans.
• Market the SBL story and competitive advantages in the marketplace.
• Actively manage pipeline and provide feedback; update pipeline tracker weekly.
• Source new loans that match credit parameters and enhance portfolio.
• Assemble standard loan packages; prepare income-statement-only spread and credit memo.
• Collect required documents from borrowers and organize securely.
• Address character issues with explanations and additional documentation as needed.
• Participate in kick-off calls with borrowers and underwriters.
• Assist underwriters and closers to gather documentation.
• Maintain positive relationships with clients, referral sources, and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with all regulations and SOP.
