Job summary

First Merchants Bank is seeking an SBL Business Development Officer to originate and manage a profitable SBA loan portfolio in Detroit, MI. You will market, network, collect documents, analyze finances, and deliver excellent service to support SBL growth goals.

You will build relationships with external referral sources, manage the loan pipeline, and collaborate with Underwriters and Closers to ensure timely, compliant loan submissions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years originating SBA loans.
• Excellent sales acumen and ability to market and network.
• Understanding of SBA SOP and loan eligibility requirements.
• Ability to spread loans and underwrite to credit parameters.
• Strong communication and client service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Identify and cultivate external referral sources to maintain a pipeline of SBA loan transactions.
• Present the SBA story and competitive advantages to borrowers and partners.
• Manage pipeline and provide timely feedback and activity data to management.
• Assemble loan packages, run income-statement spreads, and prepare credit memos.
• Collect documents from borrowers and ensure secure handling of sensitive information.
• Coordinate with Underwriters and Closers to gather required documents.
