Job summary

Sur La Table in Carlsbad, California is seeking a Chef Instructor, Savory to serve as in-store expert for savory cooking, delivering hands-on classes and personalized instruction to inspire customers and promote cookware sales.

The role focuses on sharing culinary techniques, maintaining high standards of service, and engaging guests through interactive sessions while upholding food-safety practices and brand guidelines. Availability for 12–16 hours weekly with weekend/evening shifts is required.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older at time of employment.
• Degree in culinary arts preferred; however, candidates with extensive culinary experience and demonstrated technical proficiency will be considered in lieu of formal education.
• 1–2 years of kitchen operations experience.
• Valid Food Manager Certification.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities

• Represent Sur La Table’s brand by creating memorable, educational experiences that inspire repeat visits and customer loyalty.
• Deliver in-store savory cooking classes that reflect Sur La Table’s passion for food, teaching, and high standards.
• Communicate technical cooking concepts and savory techniques clearly.
• Stay current on products through available training and independent study.
• Assist in setting up and breakdown of classes, including mise en place and clean workstation.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and safety, assist with restocking and organization of supplies.
