Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Worker to support road maintenance across the state. The role involves operating light and heavy equipment, assisting with repairs, and ensuring safety in work zones under supervision.

Qualifications

• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must attain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate small equipment such as a dump truck, forklift, tractor with broom, and roller under 4 tons for road repairs.
• Use powered tools like a chain saw and hand tools for pothole patching and pipe cleaning.
• Assist with setting up maintenance work zones and traffic control devices per SCDOT manuals.
• Serve as flagger to safely direct traffic in work zones.
• Perform manual labor (cutting bushes, cleaning pipes, shoulder repair, litter pickup).
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations (load sand and salt, remove debris, place signs).
• May work extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
