Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to perform roadway and right-of-way maintenance. The position requires six months of related experience or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Occasional overtime and inclement weather work are possible.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license is required; Class A CDL must be attained within six months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Follow MUTCD guidance for traffic control devices and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment such as tandem dump truck, large roller (4 tons), and skid loader.
• Perform maintenance tasks: patching, sign and pavement marking maintenance, shoulder and ditch work.
• Flag traffic to protect workers and public during maintenance operations.
• Place traffic control devices in accordance with MUTCD.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections of equipment/vehicles as required by department rules.
• Respond to inclement weather, after-hour emergencies, and on-call requests.
• Assist in general roadway and right-of-way maintenance activities.
