Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a roadway maintenance worker to operate equipment and perform manual labor across a variety of projects. You will assist with pothole repair, drainage work, guardrail replacement, curb pouring, and traffic control in work zones.

Responsibilities include flagging, responding to emergencies, and working outdoors in all weather conditions while ensuring crew and public safety.

Qualifications

• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work outside in all weather, including after hour emergencies.
• There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.

Responsibilities

• Operate small equipment such as dump trucks, pneumatic rollers, and tractors with mowers during maintenance tasks.
• Perform manual labor to clear rights of way, repair roads, sidewalks, and drainage structures.
• Control traffic in work zones, including flagging, for crew and public safety.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations and be on‑call for after hour emergencies.
