Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a maintenance equipment operator to support highway and bridge work. The role involves operating heavy and light equipment, performing vegetation control, patching road surfaces, and assisting with drainage and signage tasks.

The position requires a valid operator’s license and, within six months, attainment of a Class A CDL. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work extended shifts as needed.

Qualifications

• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Attainment of a Class A CDL within six months of placement is required.
• There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Operate motorized equipment such as forklift, tractor mounted broom, dump truck, roller, mower, and pipe washer.
• Assist in maintaining rights-of-way, patching road surfaces, and repairing or replacing drainage and signs.
• Place traffic control devices and flag traffic in work zones to protect workers and the public.
• Perform daily preventative maintenance and safety inspections on equipment.
