Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker to perform a wide range of road and bridge maintenance tasks on the state highway system. Responsibilities include operating motorized equipment, patching roadway surfaces, cleaning ditches, and installing signs to support safety and traffic flow.

Under general supervision, you will conduct safety inspections, routine maintenance, and participate in on-call rotations.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain roads and bridges on the state highway system, including construction, repair, and preservation tasks.
• Operate motorized equipment and haul materials for maintenance operations.
• Perform vegetation management and sign installation/maintenance to ensure visibility.
• Conduct safety inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment, and participate in on-call rotations.
