Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled Equipment Operator to maintain and operate mid-weight motorized equipment across roadwork projects in Charleston, SC. You will perform maintenance tasks, assist in drainage, signs, and debris removal, and support backhoe operations as needed.

Applicants must have at least 6 months of related work experience, a valid driver's license, and must obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain medium motorized equipment used in roadway maintenance.
• Perform maintenance tasks such as driveway installation, drainage repair, and debris removal.
• Perform traffic control duties including lane closures and flagging.
• Assist in Emergency Operations and be on call for after-hours emergencies.
