Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a Maintenance Worker to perform a wide range of highway maintenance tasks on the state system, including patching, drainage work, sign installation, and vegetation management.

You will operate a variety of equipment, from dump trucks and rollers to front-end loaders, and must obtain a Class A CDL within six months. On-call rotations and extended hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience.
• Valid driver’s license required; Class A CDL within six months.

Responsibilities

• Maintain roads and bridges on the state highway system using motorized equipment.
• Operate dump trucks, rollers, loaders, and specialized patchers as assigned.
• Install and repair signs, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and sign foundations.
• Perform vegetation management and clean ditches; manage drainage.
• Conduct safety inspections and preventative maintenance on all equipment.
• Be on-call and able to work extended hours during inclement weather or emergencies.
