Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance worker to perform skilled manual labor and operate medium equipment for road and bridge upkeep on the state highway system. You will grade, form, pour concrete for curbs and sidewalks, and assist in traffic control setup.

The role involves vegetation management, inspection of equipment, and performing duties in varying weather conditions. CDL within six months and physical stamina are required.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• CDL Class A must be attained within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operates medium equipment (tandem dump truck, belt loader, skid steer) for road/bridge work.
• Performs grading, form setting, concrete finishing for curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and driveways.
• Works on shoulders, ditches, drainage structures, pavement markings, and vegetation management with tools.
• Coordinates placement of traffic control devices for work zone safety per SCDOT manuals.
• Inspects equipment and vehicles according to Fleet Safety policies.
• Installs and repairs traffic signs, pavement markings, and guardrails.
