Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled maintenance worker to perform manual labor and operate medium equipment to maintain roads and bridges on the state highway system. Duties include grading, concrete work, traffic control setup, vegetation tasks, and inspections while complying with safety guidelines.

Responsibilities also cover emergency operations, extended hours when required, and working in proximity to traffic and hazardous environments.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
• Demonstrated ability to perform physical labor under varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled manual labor and operates medium equipment such as tandem dump truck, belt loader and skid steer in road/bridge maintenance.
• Grading, setting forms, pouring/finishing concrete for curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveways.
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices and manage maintenance work zones.
• Inspect equipment and perform routine maintenance; assist in emergency and inclement weather operations.
• May require extended hours or 12 hour shifts and work near traffic and environmental hazards.
