Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a full-time equipment operator to support DOT projects by hauling materials and operating medium equipment. You will join a crew responsible for moving asphalt, limestone, dirt, and other materials while ensuring safe, efficient work zones.

Responsibilities include pothole repairs, roadway patching, and coordinating traffic control devices during maintenance.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform demanding outdoor work.

Responsibilities

• Operates a tandem dump truck to haul materials for DOT projects.
• Operates medium equipment such as skid steers, belt loaders, and large rollers.
• Repairs potholes and patches roadway and shoulders as part of a crew.
• Coordinates placement of traffic control devices for work zones.
• May operate a motor grader as required.
• Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, including extended hours.
