Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled maintenance worker to operate a range of heavy equipment and assist in road and bridge upkeep across the state highway system.

Responsibilities include flagging and directing traffic, performing manual labor with diverse tools, and supporting emergency or inclement weather operations. Valid CDL and physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs are required.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required on entry.
• Class A CDL must be obtained within six months.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• May require working outside normal schedule during inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate tandem dump truck and belt loader for hauling materials to and from job sites.
• Operate large roller and other small equipment as part of highway maintenance tasks.
• Set up maintenance work zones and assist with traffic control devices.
• Assist in on‑call repairs and weather‑related operations, including extended shifts.
