Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking personnel to assist with traffic control and maintenance operations. Duties include placing signs and pavement markings, inspecting barricades, and directing traffic during detours or road closures.

Qualifications

• There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
• Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the placement of signs in accordance with the SCMUTCD. Assists in the placement of painted pavement markings for crosswalks, stop bars, railroad crossings etc. Performs duties inspecting/checking and maintaining barricades for traffic control operations for detours and road closures during maintenance operations. Flags traffic as necessary to direct traffic during maintenance operations such as detours, road repairs and road closures. Assist with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended work hours and/or 12-hour shifts. Picks up litter as needed from the Right-of-Way and operates dump truck as needed.
