Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks skilled workers to maintain roads and bridges on the state highway system. You will operate a range of equipment, from belt loaders to dump trucks, and perform concrete work, sign installation, and drainage maintenance.

Candidates must have six months of related experience, a valid operator’s license, and must obtain a Class A CDL within six months. Workplace safety and readiness for extended hours during weather events are essential.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Operate motorized equipment and vehicles for construction and maintenance.
• Patching roadway bases and surfaces; cleaning ditches; installing signs and pipe.
• Perform safety inspections and routine maintenance on equipment.
• Respond to emergencies and inclement weather; on-call rotations.
