Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an equipment operator to support road maintenance across the state. You will operate medium equipment including Tandem Dump Trucks and rollers, and perform manual labor for drainage, curbs, and roadway repairs.

Candidates must have at least 6 months of related experience or an approved equivalence, and must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement. A valid operator's license is required to apply.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operates medium equipment such as a Tandem Dump Truck.
• Operates medium equipment such as a Large Roller > 4 Tons.
• Flags traffic during road repairs to control traffic flow and ensure safety of employees, the public, and equipment.
• Performs manual labor associated with building catch basins; pouring concrete for curbs and raised medians; laying pipe for driveways and other drainage structures; repairing shoulders and bridges; cleaning rights-of-way.
