Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a field worker to support traffic control and maintenance across the state's roadways. You will help with signs, pavement markings, barricades, and flagging to ensure safe traffic flow.

You may assist in emergencies and adverse weather, with possible extended hours or 12-hour shifts; lifting up to 50 lbs and operating a dump truck as needed. Training completion for CDL within 6 months is required.

Qualifications

• No minimum training or experience requirements.
• Special Requirement: A valid Class A CDL is required within six months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist in placing signs in accordance with SCMUTCD.
• Assist in placing painted pavement markings for crosswalks, stop bars, etc.
• Inspect and maintain barricades for detours and road closures during maintenance operations.
• Flag traffic to direct traffic during detours, road repairs and closures.
• Assist with emergency and inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
• Picks up litter from the Right-of-Way and may operate a dump truck as needed.
