Job summary

Black Bear Diner in Odessa, TX seeks an Assistant Manager to be the right hand to the General Manager. You will coordinate planning, training, and leadership to hit sales, cost, and profitability goals while sometimes leading a shift solo.

You’ll hire and train staff, ensure front and back of house readiness, and coach team members to deliver fast, friendly service and high-quality food. Strong supervisory skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Education requirements include a High School diploma or GED; some college is preferred.
• ServSafe certification is required for this role.
• Restaurant experience is desirable and relevant to responsibilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication is essential for team leadership.
• Strong math and cost awareness (P&L, labor, food cost) are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the General Manager and lead shifts when needed to ensure smooth operations.
• Oversee guest service, food quality, and timely delivery of orders.
• Interview, hire and train team members; participation in scheduling.
• Monitor costs, inventory, and compliance with standards and procedures.
• Manage labor and adjust staffing to volume while maintaining service levels.
• Ensure safety, health, and cleanliness standards are met across front and back of house.
