Job summary

Community Partners in Action in Hamden, CT seeks a Youth Mentor for the REGIONS Site Secure Residential Treatment Program for male youth. This 1st shift role supports daily activities, supervision, and therapeutic programming in a secure setting.

You should have an associate degree or higher with experience with at-risk or court-involved adolescents, plus crisis management skills. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred; valid CT driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate has an Associate’s degree or higher with experience with at-risk or court-involved adolescents and in residential treatment programs.
• A Bachelor's degree in criminal justice with an internship may be considered in lieu of work experience.
• Understanding of gender-specific, trauma-informed, culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate needs.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, emotional intelligence, decision making and crisis management skills.
• Ability to interpret effectively with a multi-cultural population.
• Bi-lingual ability (Spanish/English) preferred; willingness to work in a secure environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and care; assist youth with daily activities.
• Maintain a safe, strengths-based, gender-responsive environment.
• Monitor youth at all times and enforce agency procedures.
• Mediate and resolve youth problems using relational, strengths-based practices.
• Use de-escalation techniques to ensure safety during crises.
• Apply DBT coaching and conduct youth groups to reduce negative behaviors.
• Supervise visits, maintain boundaries with families and visitors.
• Maintain logs and forms; support discharge planning as part of the team.
