Job summary

Community Partners in Action in Hamden, CT, seeks a Youth Mentor-Per Diem for the REGIONS Site Secure Residential Treatment Program for male youth. Schedule includes weekends and holidays; a minimum commitment of 24 hours per month is required.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree or higher (bachelor's in criminal justice may be considered). Must have a CT driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to work in a secure environment; bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher with experience working with at risk or court-involved adolescents.
• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice with related internship may be considered in lieu of work experience.
• Must have a valid CT driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Bi-lingual ability (Spanish/English) preferred.
• Must be willing to work in a hardware secure environment.
• Capacity to become SCM (Safe Crisis Management) certified and work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and care and assist youth with daily activities including school and groups.
• Maintain a safe, secure, strengths-based, gender responsive, trauma informed, linguistically appropriate and culturally sensitive environment.
• Maintain accountability for the location of youth at all times; have knowledge of and implement all agency/program policies and procedures governing facility operations.
• Mediate and resolve youth problems; use relational and strengths-based practices and comply with policies.
• Utilize verbal and/or physical de-escalation techniques to ensure safety and prevent harm.
• Use DBT coaching with youth and conduct groups to reduce negative behaviors.
• Monitor youth visiting and maintain professional boundaries with youth, families, and visitors.
• Complete logs and forms as required; assist with discharge planning as part of REGIONS treatment team.
