Job summary

Community Partners in Action in Hamden, CT is seeking a Youth Mentor for the REGIONS Site Secure Residential Treatment Program for male youth. The role is 1st shift, 8:00 am–4:00 pm, Wednesday–Sunday, with Mon/Tue off, at $26.63 per hour.

The mentor will supervise youths, support daily activities and schooling, and help create a trauma-informed, language-accessible environment. Associate degree required; CT driver’s license preferred; bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher with experience working with at-risk or court-involved adolescents and in residential treatment programs.
• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with related internship may be considered in lieu of work experience.
• Understanding of gender-specific, trauma-informed and linguistically appropriate issues.
• Must believe people can change and deserve quality services and opportunities to succeed.
• Must have a valid CT driver’s license and reliable transportation; ability to work in a secure environment.
• Bi-lingual ability (Spanish/English) preferred; lived experience encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and care and assist youth with daily activities.
• Maintain a safe, trauma-informed environment that is gender responsive and culturally sensitive.
• Maintain accountability and ensure youth are accounted for at all times according to policies.
• Mediate and resolve youth problems using relational and strengths-based practices.
• Utilize de-escalation techniques and Safe Crisis Management when needed.
• Support therapeutic programming and assist with discharge planning as part of the REGIONS team.
• Complete logs, safety checks and participate in required training.
