Syracuse Housing Authority is seeking a Relocation Specialist to plan, coordinate, and implement resident relocation activities tied to the Choice Neighborhoods Implementation (CNI) grant and redevelopment initiatives in Onondaga County. This role ensures HUD compliance while minimizing resident disruption and meeting project timelines.

The Relocation Specialist works under the Director of Resident Support Services, coordinating with project teams, community partners, and residents to schedule

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of HUD’s Uniform Relocation Act regulations and related housing regs.
• Experience with relocation practices and tenant support services.
• Ability to communicate empathetically with residents undergoing relocation.

Responsibilities

• Develop relocation plans for residents, ensuring HUD/relocation policies compliance.
• Assess relocation needs, eligibility, and available relocation assistance.
• Counsel residents on relocation options and available support.
• Coordinate housing solutions with project teams and management.
• Schedule relocations, arrange transportation, and liaise with moving vendors.
• Maintain detailed relocation case records and documentation.
• Provide regular updates to residents on timelines and services.
• Prepare progress reports for HUD and regulatory agencies.
• Inspect alternative housing options for compliance and safety.
• Organize relocation-related events and inform residents accordingly.
• Coordinate with social workers and external agencies to connect residents with services.
• Address resident concerns promptly and escalate as needed.
• Train temporary relocation staff in relocation processes.
