Job summary

McFarland Johnson (MJ) seeks a Resident Engineer with 4–12 years of aviation construction experience to oversee airport projects in the Northeast, including runway, taxiway, and related infrastructure. This full-time role provides direct work with airport clients, contractors, and MJ’s engineering teams.

Qualifications

• 4-12 years in construction inspection/engineering.
• Experience with civil infrastructure construction (pavement, drainage, utilities).
• Airport or highway construction experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specs and contracts.
• Travel to NE project sites; valid driver's license.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
• PE/EIT or related inspections certs are a plus.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site construction oversight to verify work complies with plans, specs, and contract requirements.
• Coordinate with contractors, airport staff, inspectors, and MJ project teams.
• Monitor progress, workmanship, schedules, and material testing.
• Maintain daily field reports, photos, quantities, and project records.
• Review contractor payment quantities and assist with payments.
• Support RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
• Identify construction issues and develop practical solutions with the project team.
• Coordinate activities and phasing around airport operations.
• Participate in progress meetings and support inspections and project closeout.
