Job summary

McFarland Johnson (MJ), a 100% employee-owned firm with 80 years of experience delivering engineering, planning, environmental, technology, and construction solutions, seeks a Resident Engineer to oversee airport construction projects in the Northeast.

You will provide onsite oversight, coordinate with contractors and airport staff, review progress and payments, and support RFIs and change orders. Travel to project sites across the Northeast is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• FAA or state DOT construction familiarity preferred.
• 4–12 years of construction inspection/engineering or related field.
• Travel willingness and valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite construction oversight to ensure compliance with plans, specs, and contracts.
• Coordinate with contractors, airport staff, inspection personnel, and MJ teams.
• Monitor progress, schedules, and material testing; maintain field records.
• Review contractor payments; assist with RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
• Support coordination of phasing around airport operations and project closeout.
