Job summary

McFarland Johnson (MJ) is seeking a Resident Engineer with 4–12 years of experience to oversee airport construction projects across the Northeast. You’ll work directly with airport clients, contractors, and MJ’s engineering teams on runway, taxiway, apron, and related infrastructure improvements.

The position offers opportunities across MJ’s Northeast offices, including assignments at various airports such as Boston Logan and Manchester-Boston, with travel to sites throughout Vermont and nearby

Qualifications

• 4–12 years of experience in construction inspection, construction engineering, resident engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with civil infrastructure construction (pavement, grading, drainage, utilities).
• Airport or highway construction experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site construction oversight to verify work complies with project plans, specs, and contract requirements.
• Coordinate with contractors, airport staff, inspection personnel, and MJ's project managers and design teams.
• Monitor construction progress, workmanship, schedules, and material testing.
• Maintain daily field reports, photographs, quantity measurements, and other project records.
• Review contractor payment quantities and assist with payment recommendations.
• Support review and coordination of RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
• Identify construction issues and develop practical solutions with the project team.
• Coordinate construction activities around ongoing airport operations.
• Participate in progress meetings and support punch lists, final inspections, and project closeout.
