Job summary

McFarland Johnson (MJ) is seeking a Resident Engineer with 4-12 years of experience to oversee Northeast airport construction projects. The role interacts with airport clients, contractors, and MJ engineering teams on runway, taxiway, apron, and related infrastructure.

Assignments may be based in MJ's Northeast offices at airports like Boston Logan and Manchester-Boston, with travel across the region. Evening/night work and lodging are coordinated by MJ, plus an ESOP and strong benefits package.

Qualifications

• 4-12 years of experience in construction inspection, construction engineering, resident engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with civil infrastructure construction (pavement, grading, drainage, utilities).
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite construction oversight to verify work complies with plans, specs, and contract requirements.
• Coordinate with contractors, airport staff, inspection personnel, and MJ teams.
• Monitor construction progress, workmanship, schedules, and material testing.
• Maintain daily field reports, photographs, quantities, and project records.
• Review contractor payment quantities and assist with payment recommendations.
• Support RFIs, submittals, and change orders coordination.
• Identify construction issues and develop practical solutions with the team.
• Coordinate activities and phasing around airport operations.
• Participate in progress meetings and support punch lists and project closeout.
