Job summary

McFarland Johnson (MJ) seeks a Resident Engineer with 4–12 years of experience to oversee airport construction across the Northeast. You’ll work directly with airport clients, contractors, and MJ’s engineering teams on runway, taxiway, apron, and related infrastructure improvements.

Based in MJ’s Northeast offices, assignments include Boston Logan, Manchester-Boston Regional, Nantucket Memorial, and projects throughout Vermont and nearby regions.

Qualifications

• 4–12 years of experience in construction inspection, construction engineering, resident engineering, or related field.
• Experience with civil infrastructure construction (pavement, grading, drainage, utilities).
• Airport or highway construction experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent; PE/EIT is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site construction oversight to verify work complies with plans, specs, and contract requirements.
• Coordinate with contractors, airport staff, inspectors, and MJ project teams.
• Monitor progress, schedules, and material testing; maintain field reports and photos.
• Review contractor quantities and assist with payment recommendations.
• Support RFIs, submittals, and change orders coordination.
• Identify issues and develop practical solutions with the project team.
• Coordinate construction activities around ongoing airport operations.
