Job summary

McFarland Johnson Inc. seeks a Senior Resident Engineer to lead construction oversight on complex airport projects in the Northeast.

The role will serve as primary field contact for airport clients, contractors, and MJ teams, guiding inspection efforts across runway, taxiway, and apron improvements. The ideal candidate has 12+ years of relevant experience in civil infrastructure, with airport construction preferred and willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Northeast.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in construction inspection or resident engineering.
• Experience leading field teams on civil infrastructure projects.
• Airport construction experience preferred; highway experience valued.
• PE registration or inspection certifications are a plus.
• Willingness to travel to project sites across the Northeast.

Responsibilities

• Lead onsite construction oversight ensuring compliance with plans, specs, and contract requirements.
• Serve as primary field contact for contractors, airport staff, inspection personnel, MJ PMs and design teams.
• Direct and coordinate field inspection teams; provide guidance and review project documentation.
• Oversee progress, workmanship, schedules, and material testing; coordinate issue resolution.
• Prepare and review daily field reports, photos, quantity measurements and records.
• Review contractor payment quantities and develop payment recommendations.
• Lead RFIs, submittals, and change orders; assess technical, cost, and schedule impacts.
• Resolve field issues; escalate as needed.
• Coordinate construction activities with ongoing airport operations.
• Lead progress meetings and coordinate punch lists and project closeout.
