Job summary

McFarland Johnson seeks a Resident Engineer for airport construction oversight in the Northeast. You’ll work directly with airport clients, contractors, and MJ teams on runway, taxiway, apron, and related infrastructure improvements.

Qualifications

• 4-12 years of experience in construction inspection, construction engineering, resident engineering, or related field.
• Experience with civil infrastructure construction, including pavement, grading, drainage, utilities.
• Airport or highway construction experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Familiarity with FAA or state DOT construction requirements preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, and project teams.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; candidates with equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
• PE registration, EIT certification, or applicable inspection certifications are a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Northeast.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site construction oversight to verify work complies with project plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
• Coordinate with contractors, airport staff, inspection personnel, and MJ's project managers and design teams.
• Monitor construction progress, workmanship, schedules, and material testing.
• Maintain daily field reports, photographs, quantity measurements, and other project records.
• Review contractor payment quantities and assist with payment recommendations.
• Support the review and coordination of RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
• Identify construction issues and work with the project team to develop practical solutions.
• Help coordinate construction activities and phasing around ongoing airport operations.
• Participate in progress meetings and support punch lists, final inspections, and project closeout.
