Job summary

McFarland Johnson (MJ) seeks a Senior Resident Engineer with 12+ years of experience to lead construction oversight on complex airport projects in the Northeast. You’ll serve as primary field contact for clients and contractors, and you’ll mentor inspection teams.

The position may be based in any MJ Northeast office with assignments at Boston Logan, Manchester-Boston Regional, Nantucket Memorial, and other airports across Vermont and the surrounding region.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in construction inspection, civil infrastructure, or resident engineering.
• Experience leading field teams on complex projects such as pavement, drainage, and utilities.
• Airport construction experience preferred; highway experience valued.

Responsibilities

• Lead onsite construction oversight to ensure compliance with plans, specs, and contracts.
• Serve as primary field contact for contractors, airport staff, inspection personnel, and MJ project teams.
• Coordinate field inspection teams, provide mentoring, and review project documentation.
• Oversee progress, workmanship, schedules, and material testing; resolve issues.
• Prepare and review daily field reports, measurements, and project records.
• Review contractor payment quantities and develop payment recommendations.
• Lead RFIs, submittals, and change orders; assess technical and schedule impacts.
• Escalate complex field issues and coordinate with project managers.
