Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Lead Physical Engineer to head the substation physical design for large renewables projects. You will mentor a small design team and coordinate with P&C and Civil/Structural colleagues to produce compliant design documents.

The role requires substantial substation experience, a PE license, and strong communication skills. Flexible working conditions are available with an office-based environment in multiple locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
• 7-9 years of experience in substation design and engineering.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, grounding, illumination, and clearances.
• PE License is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and problem solving.
• Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NESC, NERC standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of 35kV to 500kV physical substation layouts with optimal equipment placement.
• Coordinate with multi-discipline teams to ensure design documents are consistent.
• Provide mentorship to a three-to-five member design group and manage project timelines.
• Prepare calculations, drawings, and BOMs; ensure regulatory compliance and quality assurance.
• Support client meetings and maintain strong focus on delivering high ROI for the team.
