Job summary

Baker Tilly is seeking a Manager to join its growing Consulting practice, delivering accounting and grants management services to Tribal government clients. You will provide monthly closings, reporting, and policy guidance while coordinating with auditors and clients to ensure high-value deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; emphasis in Accounting or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of related experience, not for profit and/or governmental experience.
• Experience in grants management, financial accounting including account reconciliation, governmental accounting standards implementation, and/or accounts payable processing is preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including commitment to client service via multiple methods (email, phone, chat, helpdesk).
• Ability to understand problems, think critically and identify creative solutions.
• Effective time management and organizational skills, able to prioritize multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Works independently to prioritize work and produce quality results.
• Self-directed with strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate across functions/departments and build trusted relationships.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and government accounting/grant management software.
• Willingness to travel approximately 10-15%.

Responsibilities

• Performs operational, accounting, and consulting services for Tribal governments, including monthly closings, grants management, grant reporting, and financial reporting to key decision makers.
• Prepares polished deliverables for clients and ensures timely delivery.
• Develops policies and procedures on key accounting matters.
• Collaborates with clients to understand current practices, identify improvements, and develop updated policies.
• Performs project start-up activities, follows work plans, adheres to schedules, and attends kickoff meetings.
• Coordinates with clients during audits and helps prepare for audits.
• Assists with growing the practice and mentoring team.
• Reviews work for accuracy and quality as part of the team.
• Occasionally travels to client locations, firm trainings, or conferences.
