Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer III to design and implement substation protection and control systems. You’ll mentor junior engineers, develop relay protection schemes, and work with clients to ensure high-quality, code-compliant designs.

The role supports remote work within the United States with preferred hybrid arrangements near multiple offices, including Trussville, AL.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree required.
• 4-7 years of Substation Protection & Control design experience.
• Strong document management and organization skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Design protection and control for substations, including one-line and schematic diagrams.
• Develop relay protection schemes and control philosophies for transmission/distribution substations.
• Prepare equipment and material specs for procurement and cost estimates.
• Create conceptual designs and layouts for new and existing facilities.
• Support procurement, construction, commissioning, and O&M activities.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success.
• Mentor junior engineers and review calculations, drawings, and specs.
