Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Protection & Control Engineer to guide the design of high-voltage substations, ensuring code-compliance, quality, and reliability. You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams, and drive technical excellence from concept through construction.

The role supports remote work within the United States with preferred hybrid arrangements at multiple offices, including Lake Mary, FL, and other U.S. locations.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Strong attention to detail and quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design substation protection and control systems per codes and client standards.
• Develop protective relaying and control system designs for transmission and distribution substations.
• Develop relay protection schemes, relay settings criteria, and control philosophies.
• Create equipment and material specifications for procurement and design scope/cost estimates.
• Prepare conceptual protection and control designs for new and existing facilities.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams for project execution.
• Lead client meetings and site visits to collect data and present solutions.
• Lead QA/QC reviews and ensure design package quality and compliance.
• Mentor junior engineers and review calculations, drawings, and specifications.
