Job summary

Qualus Corporation is seeking a Principal Protection & Control Engineer to lead high‑voltage substation protection and control design, mentoring junior engineers and guiding projects from concept through construction. You will work with clients and cross‑functional teams to deliver code‑compliant, reliable solutions for critical infrastructure.

The role may be performed remotely from within the United States, with a preference for candidates in a hybrid setup near our U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
• 15+ years of experience in Substation protection & control design engineering.
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) License.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact professionally with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design substation protection and control systems using applicable codes and client standards.
• Develop protective relaying and control system designs for transmission and distribution substations.
• Create equipment and material specifications for procurement and design scope and cost estimates.
• Prepare conceptual protection and control designs and layouts for new and existing substation facilities.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, vendors, and contractors to ensure project execution.
• Lead client meetings and job site visits to collect design data and present engineering solutions.
• Lead and ensure compliance with QA/QC processes and perform technical reviews of design packages.
• Provide mentorship and oversight to junior engineers and designers.
