Job summary

GFT seeks an experienced Substation P&C Designer to join our Power Group. The role focuses on protection and control design for high-voltage substations up to 765kV, with hybrid work options in multiple U.S. locations. Travel to sites is required to gather data and verify installations.

The candidate will develop LDs, schematics, relay layouts, and SCADA interfaces, while ensuring safety, quality, and reliability in project delivery. Strong CAD skills and utility industry knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant substation or general electrical T&D designing experience
• Proficient in AutoCAD and MicroStation
• Associate degree strongly preferred
• Knowledge of NESC, NEC and IEEE codes
• Knowledge of substation voltages (MV, HV, EHV) and design for safety, cost and reliability
• Ability to meet project schedules and budgets
• Strong communication and reporting skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Responsibilities

• Design and execution of high-voltage substations in the 4kV–765kV range with emphasis on safety, cost, quality and reliability
• Generate designs and detailed deliverables under supervision of lead engineer and project manager
• Develop one- and three-line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams; control/relay panel layouts and wiring diagrams; SCADA interfaces
• Assemble material lists for substation projects and quote/order materials per contract
• Travel to job sites for assessment and data collection; communicate with clients
• Perform quality reviews of peers’ projects
