Job summary

SOLV Energy is hiring a Design Engineer II, Substation to own preliminary substation design and technical ownership for solar, BESS, and interconnection projects. This fully remote role serves as the design SME and coordinates inputs across engineering, procurement, and estimating to ensure aligned scope and schedule.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, 3+ years in substation engineering, and strong proficiency in AutoCAD/ETAP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
• 3+ years of experience in electrical substation engineering.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar).
• Understanding of substation design principles and protection schemes (IEEE, NEC, NESC).
• Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and contract language.
• Knowledge of building codes and engineering best practices.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Willingness to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Own the first-pass preliminary substation design for pursuits and projects, defining design basis and 10% design deliverables.
• Review client documents, PPAs, interconnection agreements, and related information to identify requirements and risks.
• Serve as primary substation design SME coordinating inputs from engineering consultants, procurement, estimating, and others.
• Lead development of the 10% substation design including single-line diagrams and general arrangement drawings.
• Coordinate with estimating and scheduling to ensure alignment of design, scope, schedule, and commercial assumptions.
• Review estimates for technical completeness and identify gaps, exclusions, and open items.
• Deliver owner–reviewed preliminary design to estimating and BD.
