Job summary

Ad Hoc is seeking a Staff Software Engineer with strong Front End/ Back End capabilities for a fully remote role in the United States. You will provide technical leadership across back-end systems, drive architecture, and mentor engineers while delivering scalable, secure services for federal civilian projects.

You will collaborate with product and design teams to translate requirements into robust software, advocate for best practices, and shape engineering processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years of software engineering experience
• Expert-level proficiency in back-end software engineering with technical leadership
• Extensive experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Experience designing REST APIs and microservices
• Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical guidance
• Experience delivering production-grade software in federal/public-sector environments

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for back-end design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
• Lead architecture and system design discussions, API design, and technology choices
• Serve as a technical lead to engineering teams, clients, and stakeholders
• Establish coding standards, testing, security, performance, and maintainability
• Perform code reviews and give actionable feedback to engineers
• Mentor engineers and support their technical growth
• Identify risks and dependencies and propose mitigations
• Communicate complex technical decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Contribute to client-facing technical demonstrations and proposals
• Travel periodically to collaborate with clients and partners
