Job summary

Ad Hoc is a technology company transforming government digital services. The Staff Software Engineer - Front End/Back End role is remote, with a team that builds scalable systems for veterans, healthcare, and Head Start programs.

You will lead platform design, mentor engineers, and collaborate with VA teams to deliver robust event-driven solutions while embracing a remote-first culture and high standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Expert-level experience in at least one major technology stack.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals across Java, Ruby, Node.js, Python, and Go.
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture and operation.
• Hands-on experience with Argo CD or equivalent.
• Hands-on CI/CD with GitHub Actions or similar tooling.
• Experience designing, building, or supporting distributed systems in production.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
• Independent work on complex technical problems and driving practical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and execution of platform capabilities.
• Establish patterns and best practices for tenant integrations.
• Collaborate with VA producer and consumer teams across VA.
• Partner with DevOps to automate operational toil.
• Plan and execute technical roadmaps with minimal guidance.
• Work across multiple tech stacks to understand integration challenges.
• Reduce tech debt through documentation, refactoring, tests.
• Participate in planning with partners, product leaders, engineers.
