Job summary

MediaNews Group is seeking a Staff Accountant to analyze revenue and expense accounts, prepare variance reports, and support annual budgets and weekly projections. The role focuses on maintaining finance reporting across the business and ensuring accurate forecasting with solid controls.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in financial analysis, advanced Excel skills, and experience with Oracle SmartView and Oracle Cloud EPM.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in accounting, finance, or economics.
• Strong financial analysis and forecasting skills required.
• Experience with budgeting, variance analysis, and financial modeling preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze financial data by collecting, monitoring, and creating financial models for decision support for revenue, expense, and strategic objectives
• Improve financial performance by analyzing results; monitoring variances; Identify financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts
• Work with Oracle SmartView and Oracle Cloud EPM financial reporting
• Have a strong financial analysis foundation creating forecasts and models
• Strong analytical (quantitative as well as qualitative) skills including building models
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced lookup functions (XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH), conditional logic (IF, IFS, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS), and dynamic cell linking
• Strong financial modeling experience
• Have extensive understanding of financial processes, systems and controls and responsibility for documenting the processes
• Able to prioritize workload with minimal supervision and manage multiple projects
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics
