Job summary

MediaNews Group is seeking a Staff Accountant to analyze revenue and expense accounts, prepare variance reports, and support the company’s operating plans. This role focuses on financial reporting, weekly projections, and annual budgets, while ensuring accuracy across the business.

This remote position requires residence in MN or other listed states; you will use Oracle SmartView and Oracle Cloud EPM, build models, and deliver forecasts with strong Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics
• Strong analytical skills for financial analysis and variance analysis
• Experience with financial reporting and modeling

Responsibilities

• Analyze financial data by collecting, monitoring, and creating financial models for decision support for revenue, expense, and strategic objectives
• Improve financial performance by analyzing results; monitoring variances; Identify financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts
• Work with Oracle SmartView and Oracle Cloud EPM financial reporting
• Have a strong financial analysis foundation creating forecasts and models
• Strong analytical (quantitative as well as qualitative) skills including building models
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced lookup functions (XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH), conditional logic (IF, IFS, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS), and dynamic cell linking
• Strong financial modeling experience
• Have extensive understanding of financial processes, systems and controls and responsibility for documenting the processes
• Able to prioritize workload with minimal supervision and manage multiple projects
