Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to provide production support for complex cloud systems, ensuring high availability and rapid recovery from outages.

You will work with AWS/Azure environments, perform system administration, and collaborate with development, operations, and security teams. This is a remote, full-time role requiring U.S.-based eligibility and a Public Trust security posture.

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS/Azure cloud services (S3, Step Functions, Batch, CloudWatch).
• Proven track record of managing large-scale production systems.
• Strong Linux/Unix and Windows proficiency.
• Experience with system administration tasks including user management and monitoring.
• Scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
• Experience with IaC tools and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Git and CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions, AWS CodeBuild/CodeDeploy.
• Ability to troubleshoot and optimize system performance.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day operational support of complex application cloud systems.
• Develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope.
• Follow procedures to analyze situations and data.
• Diagnose and recover from system outages with rapid reporting and workarounds.
• Document problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.
• Work directly with customers on day-to-day activities.
• Respond to user calls regarding hardware and software issues and escalate as needed.
• Communicate status of issues to users and senior management.
• Maintain computing infrastructure and inventory; implement continuous improvement.
