Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Senior Systems Engineer (Production Support) to ensure robust operation of cloud systems and rapid recovery from outages. The role requires strong Linux/Windows administration, AWS/Azure experience, scripting, and on-call readiness.

This 100% U.S. remote position emphasizes production reliability, security compliance, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. 8+ years in systems engineering and a BS in a related field are expected.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering or related field, production environments
• Experience with AWS and/or Azure Cloud
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix and Windows
• Experience with system administration tasks and monitoring
• Scripting skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation
• Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack)
• Knowledge of IaC tools (CloudFormation)
• Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Science Logic)
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration
• Willingness to be on-call for production support

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day operational support of complex cloud systems
• Develop solutions to routine technical problems
• Document problems and reports accurately
• Work directly with customers on day-to-day activities
• Respond to user calls and escalate as needed
• Maintain computing infrastructure and assets
• Implement continuous improvement in IT systems and processes
• Ensure compliance with VA security policies
• Provide training and documentation as assigned
