Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Senior Systems Engineer (Production Support) to maintain and optimize cloud-based production systems in a remote US-based role.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in systems engineering with AWS/Azure, Linux/Windows, scripting, and IaC, plus a proven track record of production reliability and cross-functional collaboration. This full-time role requires on-call readiness and adherence to VA standards and security policies.

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS and Azure cloud services and related tools.
• Proven track record managing large-scale production systems.
• Strong Linux/Unix and Windows OS skills.
• Scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
• Experience with Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack.
• Knowledge of IaC tools such as CloudFormation.
• Familiar with monitoring tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Dynatrace).
• Understanding of network security and VPNs, incident response.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git workflows.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational support for cloud systems.
• Develop solutions for routine technical problems.
• Analyze situations using standard procedures.
• Detect and resolve system outages and recover operations.
• Document problems in logging and discrepancy tools.
• Work directly with customers on daily activities.
• Respond to user calls and escalate when needed.
• Communicate status to users and senior management.
• Maintain computing infrastructure and inventory.
• Drive continuous improvement in IT systems and procedures.
• Ensure VA standards and security policies are followed.
• Provide documentation, training, and duties as assigned.
