Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (Production Support) to provide day-to-day operational support for complex cloud systems within VA projects. The role is fully remote within the United States, with a W-2 employment arrangement and strict adherence to VA security policies.

You will diagnose outages, implement fixes, and document issues while collaborating with development, operations, and security teams to ensure system reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS/Azure cloud services (S3, Step Functions, Batch Jobs, CloudWatch).
• Proven track record of managing and maintaining large-scale production systems.
• Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems.
• Experience with system administration tasks including user management, permissions, and system monitoring.
• Proficiency in scripting languages for automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack.
• Knowledge of IaC tools such as CloudFormation.
• Experience with monitoring tools including CloudWatch, Dynatrace, ScienceLogic.
• Understanding of network protocols, firewalls, and VPNs.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level operational support for cloud-based systems.
• Diagnose and fix production outages and incidents.
• Document problems and resolutions in logging/discrepancy systems.
• Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to sustain operations.
• Maintain computing infrastructure and inventory while ensuring VA security compliance.
• On-call participation for production support as required.
• Implement process improvements and automation to enhance reliability.
